Make the invisible job visible
Sit down — even for one awkward Zoom — and list the work: meds, bills, rides, food, doctors, the house. Then put a name next to each line. Not “we’ll all help.” A name. The backup person should be able to read that list tomorrow and not need a séance.
- Who owns the medication list, and who is the backup?
- Who talks to which doctor?
- Who has keys, alarm codes, and the “in case of” envelope?
- What happens if the primary person is traveling or sick?
This is not about fairness scores. It is about not asking one human to be a hospital, a secretary, and a saint. Families that write the roles down fight less, because the work is no longer a vibes-based mystery.
